Computing Services (Universitätsrechenzentrum or URZ)

The computer network at Heidelberg University provides computer access (including Internet and e-mail services) at various locations on its premises. The Universitätsrechenzentrum (URZ), the university’s main computer centre, is located at Im Neuenheimer Feld 293. It offers PCs and UNIX work stations and provides information on how to create an e-mail account. Additional computers in the computer centre in the University Library at Plöck 107-109 and in the Katalogsaal can only be used to surf the Web, consult Heidi (the local online library service) and access various databases, but not for e-mail. Further information about the computer facilities is available on the URZ homepage at http://web.urz.uni-heidelberg.de/.

The Studentenwerk operates two Internet cafés, where students can surf the World Wide Web free of charge, send e-mails or do research. These are located in the Info Café International (ICI) at the Triplex-Mensa (Universitätsplatz) and the Internetc@fé at the Zentralmensa (Im Neuenheimer Feld).
