The University Library (Universitätsbibliothek or UB)

The library system at Heidelberg University consists of a central university library alongside many smaller specialised libraries belonging to the various departments, institutes and clinics. The UB maintains an extensive Web page with links to many of the department libraries at http://www.ub.uni-heidelberg.de.

Unlike the items at the central library, the collections of books at the department libraries are generally non-borrowable or borrowable only for the weekend.

Because of the size of its collection, the central library is divided into two branches: the arts and humanities collections are located at the main branch in the Old Town, next to University Square, the scientific and medical collection is located in Neuenheimer Feld. Library tours are available at the beginning of the semester (and then on the first Thursday of each month) to help students become familiar with the facilities on offer. Exact dates and times are available at the main library (Plöck 107-109) or on its Web page at http://www.ub.uni-heidelberg.de/schulung.

International students will have an opportunity to visit the university library during Orientation Days.
