Arrival and public transportation

Heidelberg is easy to reach by plane and train. The closest airports are Frankfurt/Main (90 km) and Stuttgart (120 km). Both have good rail connections to Heidelberg. The Ryanair Airport Hahn/Hunsrück (150 km) is also an option. Buses tun regularly to and from Heidelberg. The city is directly connected to most major European cities. The Tourist Information Centre is located in front of Heidelberg train station (Tel.: ++49(0)6221-19433, E-Mail: info@heidelberg-marketing.de, http://www.heidelberg-marketing.de/content/index_eng.html). It provides city maps, information on cheap places to stay and details about bus and tram connections. Its opening hours are as follows: Summer: Monday - Saturday 9 am - 7 pm, Sunday/Bank holidays 10 am - 6 pm; Winter: Monday - Saturday 9 am - 6 pm, Sunday/Bank holidays Closed

 

Heidelberg has a good system of public buses and trams. For approximately € 100 (per semester), students can buy a Semesterticket which gives you unlimited use of buses and trams within Heidelberg. To buy a Semesterticket you need a Studentenausweis (student ID card) of the University of Heidelberg.
